The first American Pope has not shied away from making comments that could be perceived as political, but this week Pope Leo weighed in on the American president by name for the first time. The pontiff spoke to CNN’s Vatican Correspondent Christopher Lamb & urged President Trump to search for an off-ramp in the war in Iran.

Pope Leo XIV called for dialogue and for those with the power to unleash wars to choose peace, in his first Easter Sunday message since becoming the head of the Catholic Church last year.

He called for an end to the violence and for leaders to negotiate.
