On this day in 1970, Astoria’s UA Local 573 merged with Portland’s Locals 51 and 235 — uniting plumbers and steamfitters from the coast to the city. Business Managers Frank DeSanto and Henry Kistner welcomed the members of 573, calling it a move toward stronger unity for all UA craftsmen.
