September 23, 1952. Exactly 73 years ago today, one of the greatest knockouts in boxing history took place. The young challenger Rocky Marciano faced heavyweight champion Jersey Joe Walcott. Walcott dropped Marciano in the first round, but Rocky got up and kept pressing forward. The champion seemed to be in full control until the 13th round, when a lightning right hand from Marciano landed clean on Walcott’s chin, knocking him out cold.
